Annual Conference Big Success in Medicine Hat

The Ports-to-Plains Annual Conference in Medicine Hat was one of the biggest ever, with more than 220 attendees and three days of great presentations.

“We were overwhelmed by the response of our Alberta partners in terms of registration, sponsorships and just enthusiasm about the conference,” said Ports-to-Plains President Michael Reeves.

With a registration of more than 220, it was one of the best attended Ports-to-Plains Annual Meetings ever.  A large majority of the registrants were from Alberta, but there the entire
corridor was well represented.

Response to the presentations has also been very positive said Reeves.  “One of the most telling signs of how good the speakers were is how full the room stayed throughout the entire conference,” said Reeves.  “I know we have all been to conferences were it seems like half the attendees are out in the hallway during sessions or leave early, but the information presented was so good that people just didn’t want to miss anything.”

Copies of all power point presentations made at the conference are available on the Ports-to-Plains Blog at http://www.ptpblog.com/official-blog-for-ptp-alliance/, www.portstoplains.com  as well as links below.

Reeves also thanked the event’s planners for the conference running smoothly.  “Our staff worked very hard for several months to make sure the events on those few days went smoothly.  We also had tremendous help from a great planning committee in Alberta.  It would never have been so successful without their efforts.

Members of the planning committee were: Bob Sivertsen, Keith Crush, Lisa Kowalchuk, Walter Valentini, Len Mitzel, Alan Hyland, Bud James, Rick Siddle, Roger Cole, Soren Odegaard, Bob Bezpalko, Doug Cameron, Drew Hutton and Cal Klewin.

Presentations are availble by conference session:

Media Coverage:

Port-to-Plains conference deemed large success  "We have quite a few economic development officers, and not just from Medicine Hat, they're from Oyen, Hanna, Strathmore," said Medicine Hat Mayor Norm Boucher, who also hosted well over a dozen provincial MLAs and two cabinet ministers over the three-day conference.

Eastern Alberta open for business  "It's a ground floor opportunity," said Soren Odegard, the chair of the Northeast Alberta HUB economic development group. "Of a $193 billion total of major projects that are on the books, almost 67 per cent of all the investment in Alberta will be happening in the east and the north."
