Advocacy News: Wild Horse Border Crossing Petition

Over the past several years, the Medicine Hat and District Chamber of Commerce and the Alberta Chamber of Commerce have been working to garner support for the development of a 24 hour commercial port of entry at the Wild Horse border crossing.

Our Chamber federation recognizes that the development of a 24 hour port of entry would have a tremendous impact on the Alberta economy. In order to keep up with the expanding bilateral trade opportunities, expansion of our ports is not only necessary, but vital to our continued growth.

In an effort to increase the awareness and importance of the expansion of hours to the port of Wild Horse, the Medicine Hat & District Chamber of Commerce has circulated a petition. The petition contains the signatures of over 2,400 Albertans who desire to see the long-standing concern addressed by the federal government. This is in addition to the over 1,000 signatures that we submitted on our petition in March 2011.

As requested, our MP for the Medicine Hat riding, LaVar Payne, submitted our petition certified on May 15, 2014.

We will now await response as it flows through the appropriate channels and subsequent response by the Minister of Public Safety.

For more information on our Wild Horse Border policy, please view our policy book online.
