Non-Residential Property Assessment Request for Information Forms

The Non-Residential Property Assessment Request for Information (RFI) Forms were mailed out on June 13, 2014. There are some businesses who are uncertain as to whether or not they are required to fill out this form and we wanted to advise that the RFI form is a requirement under the Municipal Government Act (MGA).

The reference to the MGA is below:

Section 295 (1) of the MGA reads: “A person must provide, on request by the assessor, any information necessary for the assessor to prepare an assessment or determine if property is to be assessed”.

Additionally, you would relinquish your right to an appeal if this is not filled in under Section 295(4) of the MGA: “No person may make a complaint in the year following the assessment year under section 460 or in the case of a linear property, under section 492(1) about an assessment if a person has failed to provide the information requested under subsection (1) within 60 days from the date of the request”.

If you need assistance with the RFI Form, there is an instruction video to assist with filling out the form online.

We want to ensure all our members and businesses have a right to be heard if there are issues with the assessment and we want to ensure accuracy in the assessment roll by having the most complete and comprehensive data available.

M2M Discount of the Week: Mystery Shopper Program

As a business manager, you know the importance of customer retention. Competitors attempt to erode your existing customer base through advertisements, promotions or product enhancements, which in turn raise expectations for new customers. Although a shopper's life will not come to a grinding halt if their expectations aren't precisely met, little things do influence his or her overall shopping experience.

The role of the mystery shopper is to identify gaps that the customer might not voice - whereas the actual customer might simply decide to shop elsewhere.

For a fraction of the cost of setting of your own, this Mystery Shopper Program will provide you with a comprehensive report on the performance of your establishment.  Participation in the mystery shopper program is open to retailers, restaurateurs, hoteliers, and other service providers who are members of the Chamber of Commerce.

For more information, click here, email [email protected] or call Jim Davidson at 1.877.447.5189 or 416.447.7219.
