Member Opportunities for Promotion

We have recently been approached by 2 member organizations that are helping organize events in our area and are seeking donations for attendees and delegates:

The Medicine Hat Accommodation Association (MHAA) is putting together welcome bags for the upcoming 2015 Canadian Men's Senior Golf Championships (August 31-September 4, 2015) for out-of-town attendees and are seeking information, coupons or promotional items to put in the bags.  This is an excellent opportunity to reach out of town visitors and encourage them to stay an extra night.  If your business or organization is interested in participating, please contact the MHAA as soon as possible.  Items must be received by August 15, 2015, and the MHAA will collect and assemble all the packages and distribute to the attendees.

The Canadian Red Cross Society is seeking door prizes for their upcoming Volunteer appreciation event.  Red Cross volunteers work diligently year round, and the organization would like to make their day very special.  If your business or organization is interested in donating a door prize for this event, please contact the Canadian Red Cross to make arrangements.

Policy News: Funding to modernize the Wild Horse port of entry

On June 28th, MP LaVar Payne, on behalf of Steven Blaney, Canada’s Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, today announced the Harper Government will invest an estimated $113.65 million in improvements to infrastructure in the Prairie region including at the Wild Horse port of entry in Alberta. This investment is part of the $440 million in infrastructure funding announced in November 2014 by Prime Minister Harper to replace aging ports of entry across Canada.

The infrastructure investment includes design finalization, site services, geotechnical and environmental assessments, as well as modular building construction, including structural, mechanical, electrical, internal fit-up, commissioning, project management and signage. Construction work is planned to begin as early as 2017.

The $440 million border infrastructure investment, combined with previous Beyond the Border infrastructure commitments, provides a huge boost to upgrade ports of entry. The majority of Canadian ports of entry will be fully upgraded or replaced with modern facilities, consistent with the Canada Border Services Agency’s efforts towards modernization.

New and modern facilities will help meet new space demands due to recent operational requirements. Improvements to facilities will help ensure our small, remote and medium ports of entry will continue to deliver service excellence to travelers and traders.

This is just one step towards the Chamber of Commerce Policy on extended hours at the port of wildhorse and improving services at that port of entry. View the Chamber`s policy online here.
