Alberta Launches Three Canadian Agricultural Partnership Programs

Three programs under the Canadian Agricultural Partnership (CAP) have been launched and are now accepting applications. Accelerating the Advancement of Agricultural Innovation and Adapting Innovative Solutions in Agriculture are open and accepting applications. The due date for the first intake of applications is December 20, 2018. Alberta Launches Surveillance Program

The Surveillance Program under the Canadian Agricultural Partnership (the Partnership) was launched November 14, 2018, and is now accepting applications. Its purpose is to increase the early detection of existing and emerging livestock diseases, crop pests, bee pests, and foodborne hazards.The program aims to improve Alberta’s agriculture and agri-food sector’s ability to anticipate, mitigate and prepare for risks that could have a major financial impact on the livestock and plant industries, or affect the health and safety of people. It supports industry associations and groups to deliver initiatives aimed at enhancing public assurance in three focus areas: animal health, food safety, and plant health systems. Read More

Increase to Alberta's Feeder Association Loan Guarantee Program

Changes are being made to Alberta’s Feeder Association Loan Guarantee Program to help support competitiveness and growth in Alberta’s livestock industry.The Feeder Associations Guarantee Regulation is being amended to increase loan limits from $1 million to $2 million and increase the amount member associations can receive in advance based on the value of their livestock. Visitor Services Innovation Fund Expands for 2019

The Visitor Services Innovation Fund enables visitor services providers to deliver trip-planning information in more innovative ways, such as mobile services, ambassador programs and social media, to engage more travellers. The program has expanded eligibility to include municipalities. Eligible visitor services providers and communities are encouraged to apply for funding before the Jan. 17, 2019 deadline. The fund offers up to $7,000 to organizations that provide visitor services, and up to $16,000 to those that use partnerships to develop new ways to connect with more tourists. Utilities Consumer Advocate Provides Free Mediation

In June, the government passed An Act to Empower Utility Consumers, which expanded the mandate of the UCA to include water utilities. Effective Dec. 1, the UCA is a one-stop shop for people looking for help on water, natural gas and electricity issues. The UCA previously mediated disputes between consumers and electricity and natural gas providers, but can now help water utility customers with questions about billing, customer service, disconnection and metering issues.
